3 First Steps for First Time Home Buyers

  1. Make a decision. Don’t rush into it. Good or bad, but it takes years to find a perfect home. If you think that you are ready to settle down make sure that you are going to be staying in the area for at least 7-10 years. A good sign for that would be that you have been having a stable job near by for a year or two, and see a good perspective there.
  2. Find a good agent. There is no way you can handle this whole process on your own without an incredible amount of stress and spending too much time. Hiring an agent means extra cost, but your sanity is totally worth it. A house is not a car, so you won’t be protected by a lemon law. It might take a whole year for you to figure out that something was wrong with it, and you didn’t notice.
  3. Know your budget. Numbers are important. Don’t get a deal that from the very beginning seems unreal to you. Buying a house is a big decision to make. If you really like it, but that is totally out of your price range consider changing your expectations or moving to another, more affordable area.
