A wide variety of businesses use underground storage tanks at their facilities. These can include hospitals, nursing homes, and other emergency care facilities that use fuel to power important, life-saving generators. This also includes gas stations, truck stops, and marinas who provide gasoline and diesel for our different modes of transportation. There are also many businesses and government agencies that store fuel at their location for their fleets. Having underground storage tanks is a necessity for many businesses, however, it’s important to understand that there are inherent risks as well. Leaks from the tank can cause major environmental damage, especially to our groundwater resources. Toxic materials that seep into the environment can result in health risks to those with reduced immune systems, and ultimately, the cost of cleaning up a spill can harm the bottom line for the owner of the facility.
